Mr. Arastoo Khan
Chairman
Arastoo Khan is the Chairman of Board of Directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited. He represents Armada Spinning Mills Limited as Director of the Bank. Earlier, he was the Chairman of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited. He was born in a reputed Muslim family of the village - Garpara, Manikganj in 1956. He did his SSC from BAF Shaheen School and HSC from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. Mr. Khan joined Bangladesh Civil Service and was born in BCS 1982 batch. During early years in the Civil service he completed Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Boston, USA in 1990.

Until November 2015, Mr. Khan worked as Secretary to the Government serving as Member, Planning Commission. He worked variously as Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance from 2001 to 2014. He also worked as Joint Secretary, and was first to head the Debt Management Wing of the Finance Division, Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Arastoo Khan was deeply involved in formulation of National Budget during his incumbency as Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in Finance Division, Ministry of Finance.

He worked intensively with IMF during their annual Article IV Consultation surveillance missions. He had worked directly for the Government during the last three IMF programs such as Poverty Reduction Growth Facility (PRGF); Emergency National Disaster Assistance (ENDA) following the Global Economic Crisis & the just concluded Extended Credit Facility (ECF). He had represented Bangladesh in the Steering Committee of the SAARC Development Fund. At Economic Relations Division, he assisted the Finance Minister and Governor for Bangladesh at the World Bank and IMF during the World Bank and IMF Annual and Spring Meetings from March 2010-July 2014. He headed Bangladesh Negotiation Team in all loan negotiations between the Government and the World Bank during the same period.

During his service as the Member, Planning Commission, he had been In-charge of Physical Infrastructure Division, which is responsible for over 35% of the total development expenditure.
Mr. Arastoo Khan had received professional training on Macroeconomic Impact of Budgeting & Macroeconomic Management for Senior Officials from IMF, Singapore Training Institute; Budget Policy and Implementation in a Reformed Public Sector from Australian National University; a short training on Public Financial Management from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Cambridge, USA.

Among financial engagements Mr. Arastoo Khan sat on the Boards of IFIC Bank Ltd, Karmasongsthan Bank Ltd, Agrani Bank Ltd. He also brings with him the experience of Acting Chairman of Agrani Bank Ltd as well as Directors of two oil companies and two telecommunication companies before he joined Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited.
