A two-day annual business development conference of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited began at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka on January 12, 2017. Arastoo Khan, Chairman of the bank inaugurated the conference as chief guest. Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam, Vice Chairman, Major General (Retd.) Engr. Abdul Matin, Chairman, Executive Committee, Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Chairman, Audit Committee, Md. Abdul Mabud, PPM, Chairman, Risk Management Committee, Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, Shamim Mohammed Afzal, Borhan Uddin Ahmed, Professor Dr. Qazi Shahidul Alam, Md. Syful Islam, FCA, FCMA, Md. Joynal Abedin, Md. Mizanur Rahman, and Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Karim, Directors were present on the occasion as special guests. Md. Abdul Hamid Miah, Managing Director and CEO, presided over the conference while Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, Deputy Managing Director addressed as welcome speaker. Deputy Managing Directors, Head Office Executives, Head of Zones and Branch Managers of the Bank attended the conference.
The conference disclosed that up to December 31, 2016 IBBL has reached deposit milestone of Tk. 680 billion by adding Tk. 65 billion in its deposit portfolio. The bank has achieved investment base of Tk. 650 billion increasing Tk. 88 billion over the year. IBBL has consolidated its leadership in handling import, export and remittance business of Tk. 340 billion, Tk. 250 billion and Tk. 280 billion respectively.
Arastoo Khan as chief guest said, Islami Bank will deploy all of its strength and abilities in developing the country and building the nation. As the largest commercial bank, the service door of the bank remains opened for all people of the country. ‘Preamble of the bank will remain unchanged’, he reiterated and said, the bank will run all of its activities in accordance with Shariah Principles. It will show Zero Tolerance regarding this issue. Manpower recruitment, promotion and transfer shall be on the basis of merit and qualification irrespective of religion, caste and creed. Besides, more female employees will be recruited for women empowerment. Employee salary structure will be revised with increasing in comparison with other banks. He, however, gave directives to the branch managers to contribute more to the national economy through running the bank professionally.
Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam as special guest said, Islami Bank is directly or indirectly involved in handling about one-third of the national economy. The bank has been working to contribute 1% in GDP in order to materialize the vision-2021 declared by the Government. He said, giving due importance on micro and SME sectors, the bank will diversify its investment in welfare sectors with a view to employment generation, women empowerment, strengthening rural economy and uplifting the living standard of the marginal people. Terming the Rural Development Scheme ‘poverty alleviation program’, he said through this program, the bank will develop more 5 lac women entrepreneurs.
Other speakers said, Islami Bank has been working to build a self-reliant country free from hunger, poverty and economic disparity. The bank is also working as a development partner of the Government in attaining the status of middle-income nation. They urged all the managers to reach the bank’s services to the door-steps of more people in full professional attitudes. They, however, thanked the managers to bag the good result in 2016 and suggested to do better in 2017 in all parameters.
