A two day-long Annual Business Development Conference of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited was inaugurated on 16 January 2012, Monday, at a local Hotel. Prof. Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher, Chairman of the Bank was present in the Conference as Chief Guest. Engr. Mustafa Anwar, Vice Chairman of the Bank inaugurated the Conference this morning. Presided over by Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of the Bank the Conference was attended among others by Engr. Md. Eskander Ali Khan, Chairman, Executive Committee, Md. Shahidul Islam, Chairman, Audit Committee, Mominul Islam Patwary, Mohammad Abdullah Al Jalahma, Engr. Muhammad Dawood Khan, Prof. Mohammed Nazrul Islam, Humayun Bokhteyar, ACPA, FCA, Professor Dr. NRM Borhan Uddin, Directors of the Bank. Mohd. Shamsul Haque, Deputy Managing Director of the Bank delivered the welcome address. Professor Dr. Abu Bakr Rafique, Member Secretary, Shariah Supervisory Committee, Top Executives, Zonal Heads and 266 Branch Managers of the Bank were present in the Conference.

It was disclosed in the Conference that Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited has been able to hold the leading positions in deposit, investment and foreign exchange business in private banking sector. The total Deposit increased by Tk. 5007 core and reaches at Tk. 34,136 crore up to 31 December 2011. The total Investment increased by Tk. 4894 core and reached at Tk. 34,103 crore. Foreign exchange business of the Bank increased by Tk. 10,673 crore and reached at Tk. 71,606 crore including import Tk. 30,121 crore, export Tk. 17,824 crore and remittance Tk. 23,661 crore showing increase of import 5,493 crore, export 2,982 crore and remittance 2,198 crore respectively.

Prof. Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher in his Speech as Chief Guest said that Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited has been able to continue its progress despite the global recession. It was possible for relentless efforts and devotion of the employees of the Bank. He said that Islami Bank is the Bank of the People of the country. He called upon the Managers to give all out efforts to carry the service of the Bank to each and every people of the country. He urged all to work with more passion to implement the 100 days program taken at the outset of the year to bridge between IBBL and the People. He called upon the Managers to work with more concentration in the year 2012 and thanked them for the success obtained.

Engr. Mustafa Anwar in his speech said that Islami Bank has been providing services for the development of the country since the inception of the Bank. It is playing vital role in the development of the life standard of the people of the country through industrialization, rural development and commercial investment. Islami Bank is conducting different investment programs along with Rural Development Scheme among the landless, shelterless and downtrodden people with a view to alleviating the poverty from the country.

He said that all of our efforts aim at the well being of the country. That is why, Islami Bank has been considered to be the Bank of 16 crore people of the country. Islami Bank has been able to gain reputation beyond the boarder of the country. He called upon the Managers to work for economic development of the country with more prudence and responsibility.

Mohammad Abdul Mannan in his presidential speech said that the officials of the Bank are working hard to implement a noble mission & vision. He called upon all to work with sincerity and professionalism using the modern technology in the banking arena.

He said, the supremacy of Islami Banking has been proved. This is the most important success of Islami Bank. He urged the Managers to acquire International standard and provide services for development of the country.
