Western Union’s service was launched at Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka. Masud Biswas, General Manager of Bangladesh Bank inaugurated the service as the Chief Guest. Presided over by Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of IBBL, the program was attended by Roy Fernandez, Director, Operations, East & South Asia, Western Union as special guest and was addressed by Md. Nurul Islam and Md. Mahbub-ul Alam, Deputy Managing Director of IBBL. Senior officials of Islami Bank and Western Union were present.
In Chief Guest’s speech Masud Biswas said, Islami Bank actively supports the socio-economic development of the country. Its collaboration with Western Union will facilitate quicker remittances inflows for the people. He congratulated IBBL for collecting the largest portion of foreign remittance through no more than 269 branches. He said, the country received 249.8m dollar remittance upto 8th instant of current month while Islami Bank solely collected its 29 per cent.
Mohammad Abdul Mannan, IBBL Managing Director said we have earned remittance clients’ satisfaction with our service in most caring manner. Islami Bank mobilizes 30 per cent of the country’s remittance inflow. IBBL has introduced very quick remittance facilities and spot cash system to enable the beneficiary of NRBs to withdraw cash even without having any Bank Account with us. They can also check their bank account from abroad through internet network. We have introduced Mudaraba NRB Savings Bond for the NRBs and NRB help desk at all the branches and also at Head Office. We have introduced remittance card to ease withdrawal of money sent by the NRBs.
In Special Guest’s speech Roy Fernandez said, Western Union with a wide network expanding over 200 countries has over 11,000 Agent locations in Bangladesh. Collaboration with an iconic Bangladeshi bank IBBL will extend service facilities of the both organizations.
