INDEPENDENT DIRECTOR & CHAIRMAN, AUDIT COMMITTEE

Md Abdus Salam FCA, President for year 2013 of The Institute of Chartered Accountants Bangladesh (ICAB), and was in the Council of the Institute since 2010 and served as the Vice President, (Education and Training) from 2010 to 2012. He was the Member of Education Committee for the years 2010-2012 of SAFA and was the Board Member of the SAFA for the year 2013.

He is serving as Bangladesh Bank nominated Independent Director to the reconstructed Board of Directors since August 2024 and also serving as the Chairman of the Audit Committee of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC (IBB PLC). Previously, he was an Independent Board Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited for the years 2010-2015 over two terms and served as the chairman/member of Risk Management Committee and the Audit Committee. Additionally, he serves as a member of Bangladesh Medical University's Planning and Development Committee.  

Salam was one of the Council Members of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) since its inception in 1996 and served in the Council until 2012 of the same Institute. He also served in the   capacity of Treasurer for the year 2004-2005 and the Vice President for the year 2005-2006. 

Salam is also a life Member of Bangladesh Economic Association, (LM 0853). He also serves as the President of Lions Club of Meghna.

In his professional experience spanning over 36 years, he was the Technical Adviser of the World Bank Project-ICAB for training of Chartered Accountants and the Finance Expert of ADB- for Primary Education Development Program of eleven Development Partners’ Group including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

He was the nominated Director of BSEC Capital Market Development Institute, DSE, CSE and the SME Foundation for 2013. He also serves as the Nominated Board Director of Coal Power Generation Company of Bangladesh and the Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh. He serves in these organizations as the chairman of Audit Committees.

Salam completes B. Com (Hons’) in Accounting in 1975 and M. Com in Accounting from the University of Dhaka in 1976.  He started Chartered Accountancy with the support of two scholarships: Burmah Eastern scholarship and the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation scholarship awarded to the CA profession. He became an Associate of the Institute in 1989 and Fellow Member (Membership 0570) in 1994. Salam started his career in Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and completed as Additional Director of Accounts in 1990.
