Mr. S. M. Abdul Hamid, FCA currently serves as an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and Senior Partner of Islam Jahid & Co., Chartered Accountants. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 and is also a Diplomaed Associate of the Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh (DAIBB).

Born in 1955, Mr. Hamid completed his MBA in Finance & Banking from the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC). He was recognized as one of the most distinguished graduates of IIUC and received the Excellence in Finance & Banking Award in 2012.

Mr. Hamid has over 37 years of distinguished service in the banking sector of Bangladesh. He began his career at IFIC Bank PLC in 1983 and held several senior leadership positions including Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer (CAMLCO), Head of Internal Control & Compliance and Deputy Managing Director. He served IFIC Bank until 2017, subsequently joining Premier Bank PLC as Deputy Managing Director (2017–2019) and later Citizens Bank PLC where he retired in 2020 as Deputy Managing Director.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hamid has demonstrated expertise in General Banking, Loans & Advances, Foreign Exchange, Treasury, Finance & Accounts, Risk Management, Compliance, and Policy Formulation. He has played a pivotal role in the development, evaluation and implementation of strategic plans and guidelines for the banking sector. He is widely respected as a dynamic banker and Loans & Advances specialist with particular strengths in project finance, foreign trade financing and international business. His leadership has consistently contributed to balanced business portfolios, sustainable growth and the advancement of Bangladesh’s banking industry.

Mr. Hamid has further enriched his professional knowledge through participation in numerous national and international training programs, including:

  • International Program on Asset-Liability Management in Banks & Financial Institution (NIBM, Pune, India)
  • Measuring & Managing Operational Risk (Marcus Evans, Mumbai, India)
  • Operational Risk Management for Financial Institutions (SEDF)
  • Branch Network Management (Citibank N.A., Hong Kong)

He has also been a regular participant in the South Asia Federation of Accountants (SAFA) Conferences organized by ICAB and ICMA. His professional engagements have taken him overseas to India, Hong Kong and other countries, broadening his leadership and technical expertise.
