Professor Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam, Member, Shari`ah Supervisory Council, IBBPLC is the Vice Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University, Dhaka, and former Professor and Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Dhaka. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Dhaka on the topic “The Role of Islam in Establishing Human Values: Bangladesh Perspective (1971–2001)”. He stood first in both his B.A. (Hons) and M.A. in Islamic Studies from the same institution.

Dr. Alam began his academic career as a lecturer at RAJUK Uttara Model College (1995–2000) before joining the Bangladesh Civil Service (20th BCS) and later the University of Dhaka in 2000. He has supervised numerous MPhil and Ph.D. researchers throughout his career.

He currently serves as a member of the Shari’ah Supervisory Committees of Rupali Bank PLC and Premier Bank PLC. Additionally, he is a member of the Halal Certification Committee of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Convener of the Bengali Transliteration Committee of Arabic Alphabet under the Islamic Foundation, and a life member of the Bangladesh Co-operative Book Society.

Dr. Alam has represented Bangladesh at international conferences and training programs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. He is also a well-known Islamic speaker featured on all major television channels in the country.
